Graduates of the School of Political Sciences at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki have access to a wide range of career opportunities. They can work as political scientists, public relations officers, communication and strategy consultants, executives in public and private sector organizations, as well as experts and advisors in areas such as policy-making, administration, and public opinion analysis.
Our graduates also hold positions of responsibility in ministries, public services, local government (municipalities and regions), international organizations (such as the European Union, the OECD, etc.), and the diplomatic service. Furthermore, they are employed in embassies and consulates, political parties, polling and market research companies, research institutes, non-governmental organizations, and in the field of international development cooperation (energy, tourism, entrepreneurship, etc.). They may also pursue careers in secondary education as teachers of related subjects.
Internships are an integral part of the undergraduate curriculum and are offered as elective courses in both the winter and spring semesters. Students can complete a three-month internship in a professional environment related to their field of study, both in Greece and abroad. In addition, through the Erasmus+ Placement program, many students undertake internships in international organizations with the financial support from the Erasmus+ program. Of the approximately 200 students admitted to the School each year, about 40–45% participate in one of these two internship programs. 50% of students who complete an internship program are directly employed in relevant professional settings.
The School collaborates with the Panhellenic Union of Legal and Political Scientists (PENPE), which is primarily active in secondary education.
Since 2006, as part of the internship program, the School has been systematically collecting feedback from public sector bodies (local government authorities) and private sector organizations (chambers of commerce, consulting and research firms) regarding the academic and professional preparedness of our students, providing valuable insights for the continuous improvement of the program.
Finally, the Department maintains regular collaboration with key institutional stakeholders such as the Ministry of the Interior, the Central Union of Municipalities of Greece (KEDE), the Union of Regions of Greece (ENPE), and the Regional Union of Municipalities of Central Macedonia (PED-KM), thereby strengthening students’ connections with the job market and public administration.
