Giorgos Margaritis studied at the University of Nice, France, where he also finished his PhD studies in 1981. He has experience from several universities. He worked at the University of Crete from 1985 until 2004, when he assumed his position at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He has led and participated in several research projects. He has published 5 monographs, contributed to collective works, edited publication on historical subjects, conference proceedings, etc. His articles appear in Greek and international publications. For several years he was member of the editing board and regular contributor to the periodical Politis. His articles on various political and contemporary issues have appeared in nearly the whole range of the Greek press. His research interests include: Greek and European history of the 20th century, War, Politics and society, Second World War: Occupation and resistance, The Greek Civil War, Military history, Social problems (suicide), Political memorials: Monuments over fallen soldiers and patriotic sermonies, The Greek Revolution and war of independence (1821-1830).  His publications include: From Defeat to Revolt. Greece 1941­2 (Athens 1993); History of the Greek Civil War, 1946­9 (Athens 2000‐1); Undesirable Compatriots: Evidence of the Destruction of the Minorities in Greece, Jews and Cams 1941­4 (Athens 2005).
