Academic Diary

The academic year begins on 1 September and ends on 31 August of the following calendar year.

The academic work of each academic year is structured in two semesters of study (winter and spring), each of which comprises 13 weeks of teaching and two or three weeks of exams.

The winter semester begins in the last week of September and ends in the miidle of January followed by the first exam period of the winter semester.
The spring semester begins in mid-February and ends at the end of May, followed by the first exam season of the spring semester.
The exact dates are determined by the University Senate. In exceptional cases, however, the Minister of Education, upon the senate’s proposal, regulates the beginning and the end of the two semesters outside the normal dates in order to complete the necessary number of teaching weeks.

Each semester has two examination periods:

Winter semester courses are examined during the January-February period and reexamined during the September period.
Spring semester courses are examined during the June period and reexamined during the September period.
HOLIDAYS

During July and August no teaching or exams are held since these are considered summer vacation months. Vacations also include:

Christmas Holiday: From December 24 to January 7.
Carnival holidays: From Thursdays to Tyrophagus and until the following Monday.
Easter holidays: From Good Monday to Sunday of Thomas.

Official holidays

October 26: Feast of Saint Dimitrios. Liberation of Thessaloniki (National Day).
October 28: Anniversary of “OXI” towards Italian fascism (National Day).
November 17: Anniversary of the Polytechnic revolt in 1973.
January 30: Feast of the Three Hierarchs (Religious Feast).
25th March: Anniversary of the revolution of 1821 against the Ottoman Empire (National Day).
1st May: May Day.
The Holy Spirit: Mobile Religious Feast.

Upcoming semesters and examination periods in the Department of Political Sciences:

Spring Semester 2016-2017
Teaching period: 13.02.2017 to 26.05.2017
Examination period: 05.06.2017 to 30.06.2017:

Examinations in September 2017
01.09.2018 to 30.09.2018

Winter Semester 2017-2018:
Teaching period: 2.10.2017 to 12.01.2018
Examination period: 15.01.2018 to 10.02.2018

Spring semester 2017-2018
Teaching period: 12.02.2018 to 31.05.2018
Examination period: 04.06.2018 to 30.06.2018

Deadlines for the submission of semester and postgraduate diploma theses

The Friday of the first week of each examination period is set as the deadline for the submission / delivery of postgraduate students’ diploma theses.

More specifically:
For the June 2017 examination period: Friday 9.6.2017.
For the September 2017 examination period: Friday 8.9.2017

The Monday of the last (fourth) week of each examination period is set as the deadline for the submission / delivery of postgraduate students’ semester essays.

More specifically:
For the June 2017 examination period: Monday 26.6.2017.
For the September 2017 examination period: Monday 25.9.2017
